5.     Present Perfect Tense (bentuk sudah)

Present perfect digunakan untuk menerangkan kegiatan yang sudah terjadi atau sudah dilakukan. Bentuk negatif dari tense ini memiliki arti “belum.”

Pattern :

S + have / has + V₃

Signal words :

Already       : sudah

Not ... yet   : belum

Just             : baru saja

For              : selama

Since           : sejak

Example :

a.     I have already done my homework.

b.     She has not washed her uniform yet.

c.      My uncle has just arrived.

d.     We have lived in Salatiga for 20 years.

e.      They have learnt Spanish since 1999.

6.     Present Perfect Continuous

Present perfect continuous berfungsi untuk menerangkan kegiatan yang sudah terjadi dan sampai sekarang masih berlangsung.

Pattern :

S + have / has + been + V₁ + ing

Time signals :

For    : selama

Since : sejak

Example :

a.     My father has been working in that company for 15 years.

b.     They have been waiting for me since 5 o’clock.

7.     Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous digunakan untuk menerangkan kegiatan yang sedang terjadi atau sedang dilakukan di suatu waktu di waktu lampau.

Pattern :

S + was / were + V₁ + ing + when (ketika) + S + V₂

S + V₂ + while (sementara) + S + was / were + V₁ + ing

Example :

a.     I was cooking when my mother called me.

b.     He knocked at the door while we were watching TV.
